In Welle, Uganda 🇺🇬 there is a community committee, democratically elected by the residents, and a village fund, next to unconditional cash transfers. The committee and the village fund are seen by the researchers as important pillars for the success. The committee is important for advice and mediation (of conflict). From the village fund an investment was made in a clean water source (two wells). The village fund strengthens the sense of community, according to the researchers. The village fund clearly shows added value by enabling residents to invest together in public facilities. These are some encouraging findings of an impact study performed by researchers of the University of Groningen, focusing on the effects on economic, health and well-being, as well as social cohesion.
Thanks René Heeskens and the INclusion Worldwide team for your leadership and publication of this open-access summary of this important impact study!
